Nov 14, 2006 I wrote a quick shell script to copy a custom DefaultKeyBinding.dict into the current user's Library folder. Then, with the help of Platypus, I made it a nice clickable application. To fix your 'home' and 'end' keys (as well as 'page up' and 'page down'), just download and run KeyFixer.
Asio download mac. Mac OS X has an easy way to type 'curly' quotes and apostrophes instead of 'straight' versions. I used both versions in that sentence to show the difference. Here is a bigger version to make the distinction more visible:
- While I've used iOS on my phone and tablet for years, a recent change in employment has brought me over to a full Mac shop for my 'desktop' experience. My reviews have suggested some modifications to the 'DefaultKeyBinding.dict' file using TERMINAL. But I was hoping for a more elegant or graphically-friendly solution.
- Create a folder named ‘KeyBindings' in the ‘Library' folder if it doesn't exist already. Also create a text-file named ‘DefaultKeyBinding.dict'. After that it should look like this: File ‘DefaultKeyBinding.dict' contains new keybindings for Alt + R and Alt + Q. I created a dummy function for these shortcuts.
- It is my default keyboard layout. Perhaps someone else might find it useful, too. Especially users of Apple's U.S. Extended keyboard layout might find this keyboard layout easy to use. Compose key on Mac OS X. This keyboard layout implements the compose key on Mac OS X by using a keyboard layout (duh).
Many people think 'curly' quotes look better than 'straight' ones.
You can use the following keyboard shortcuts to type a single or double curly quote:
- Single quote open (‘) — option ]
- Single quote close (') — shift option ]
- Double quote open (') — option [
- Double quote close (') — shift option [
However, I think it makes more sense to use [ and ] for open and close versions instead of the shift key. I found myself constant typing 'mismatched‘ quotes. I also wanted to use the shift key for double quotes since that's how the normal keyboard button works.
- Single quote open (‘) — option [
- Single quote close (') — option ]
- Double quote open (') — option shift [
- Double quote close (') — option shift ]
Since OS X supports custom key bindings, I looked for a way to fix this. The trick is to create a file called DefaultKeyBinding.dict
in the KeyBindings
folder inside your Library
folder. You can use this file to override the default key bindings for most applications.
